All my friends watch rated R movies and almost none of them are on here.

But it's a nice sample group and pretty diverse

No, I would not. Nor plenty of things with less than an R-rating. Anything more than an occasional kiss (during which I look away from the screen) and I will not watch it. I also stopped watching a show with a lot of zxual innuendo and jokes, even though none of it was acted out. I live in a Torani DL community, if that contributes to your poll ;-)

Your assumption is very wrong. Almost everyone I know who watches movies would watch any movie. I myself barely watch any tv or movies because I have no patience to sit still but I will watch any movie I’m interested in, don’t really care about the rating.

And most people I know wouldn't. I'm keeping an open mind but so far the poll results show me and the people I know not to be an anomaly

I don't really look for random R rated movies, but if something is highly recommended, has artistic merit, and is a subject that is of interest to me, I will watch.

Juvenile, slapstick or uber-violent movies that are designs to appeal to teenage boys? No way!

I dont care much for the ratings. They aren't done uniformly.

That said I don't care much for s-xual content in movies. It grosses me out. Violence scares me. Curse words as long as it's not overdone don't bother me.

I also have no idea who beats their wife and who watches [filth] and who is addicted to gambling....

I do know what the norms and standards are though. I also expect that some deviate from the norm

(Btw not equating R Movies to wife beating or relations addiction. Just used as an example!

Better than ratings: You can look up films and shows on sites like commonsense media, where they give both a rating and a *description* for several different categories (AFAIR positive role models, educational value, violence, zxual content, alcohol and drugs, language, commercialisation). It will say eg "in one scene a man is briefly seen topless in a non-s-xual context" or "[specific swearwords] are used X number of times" or "graphic depiction of a shootout in which a main character is killed". That is much more useful for deciding what to watch than a rating.

Especially, btw, for kids' shows which have a PG rating but may be full of words like "butt, dumb, jerk" that you don’t want your kids to listen to.

Thanks for this!

No. With a couple exceptions. But those times I gave in to the urge to watch an R rated movie, it left me with an awful gross feeling. I don't really watch movies anymore, no time and patience, and nothing seems worth it.

Yes, I do. Some of my favorite movies are R-rated. I don’t really filter what I watch.

Oops, sorry, misunderstood the question. No, I don’t refrain from watching R-rated movies.

I would and do. But— not explicit scenes at all. And no violence. But I think R also covers “ mature” themes which I’m ok with. I do watch by myself. Dh has very different taste in movies, books and music.

I don't pay attention to ratings at all. I look at a description and/or skip parts, based on what a rav said women shouldn't watch.

As others have posted, it would depend entirely on the movie and the reason for the rating.

Almost ANY film that is intended for adults and deals with serious themes receives an R rating.

I am not a fan of any of the high action films - they are cartoons or fantasy which isn't my thing.

Nor is violence but there is a HUGE difference between a masterpiece like Chinatown and one that has gratuitous s*ex or violence. Or The Godfather is also one of the great American films.

Ratings are intended for parents to judge content and I am not a child. I read reviews by critics I respect and decide whether the film is worth watching. I am much more likely to watch a well reviewed R rated film than ANY Hallmark movie. Smile

Keep in mind also that ratings have changed over the years. And some movies that were rated PG or g 30 years ago would now be a PG-13 etc
