Yes , this. Ds 10 hates when I compliment him or praise his good things ect. I wrote him a nice letter letting him know how much I love him and the good things about him , he got angry and ripped the paper. He wouldn't allow me to hug him or say that I love him. yet he does love touch like holding hands or he loves playing games with me (which is a good way for us to better connect) just I would love more ideas how I can elevate his confidence. In terms of yashiva , he is doing great and gets along with friends well, and seems like with them he has no problem whereas at home he is different. Still playful but doesn't allow anyone to praise him . Does this make any sense or is it rather concerning?

A parenting mentor could be helpful to you.

Different people connect to different things. I would take his cues and not do things he seems to not enjoy. I would say thank you when applicable instead of praise, or buy him a treat and say this is because you did that amazing thing.

I just started a similar thread a few days ago. Same age and gender. Check it out.

I think the subject was child allergic to compliments
