1. Agreed about it not being sensitive. Especially when some of your reasons are so arbitrary. Like Faiga means bird and has nothing to do with a faigala. 2. Extra credit I cannot stop laughing at your choice of “do not name” names

Wanted to be safe and not hurt anyone on this forum. If somebody is hurt they must be a troll.

I don't agree with this post either because people don't always have the choice to skip over names in their family, even if it's not one they prefer. No reason to make someone feel bad in an already bad situation. Most people dont name their child Faiga solely because they like birds or pessel because they are bored. There is an obligation (whether from someone pressuring or from personal feelings such as having been close to the deceased).
But just to clarify one of the names, Chaya means "life" or "animal". A VILDA Chaya is a wild animal. Plain chaya is just "animal". Just saying.

I think this is very insensitive dear OP. You wrote plenty common names and I’m sure people around here either have them or have siblings or kids with some of those names. These are the names I’d never use:

Amelek
Eisav

My elementary school was the upper floor of a temple called Temple Emanuel. (I happen to love the name Emanuel, but I don’t think my husband would ever go for it, even with its meaning.)

Minya

Lesha
Feivel
Rasha

For this reason, our children are not specifically named after anyone.

Edit: actually, I don’t like most Yiddish names, and in general prefer Hebrew names, especially names that not everyone has....in my husbands family, there are 5 Esthers

I love the name feivel. It's my sons name.

lol Immonuel is my husbands first Hebrew name.

He goes by his second (Elisha) and we all call him by his second name.

Both combined have a beautiful meaning.

No idk why he prefers Elisha. Maybe it’s easier for ppl to say lol idk

For laughs we used to make up funny name combinations-

Tushna Buttman
Ita Burger

Not so bad but I knew an Esther Malka (malka is the last name. It got confusing).

Hmm forgot the rest but feel free to add.

When I was I camp they announced “Esther Malka you have a phone call”. I always wondered how they knew which Esther Malka they were referring to until one day someone enlightened me that Malka was her last name.
