Tushna Buttman and Yafit Shmell.

That's what we used to giggle about as 12 years olds. ๐Ÿ™„

For laughs we used to make up funny name combinations-

Tushna Buttman
Ita Burger

Not so bad but I knew an Esther Malka (malka is the last name. It got confusing).

Hmm forgot the rest but feel free to add.

I actually know two people named Ita Berger! One is married and is no longer Berger but the other is in Primary.

As someone who didnโ€™t grow up frum my name tastes changed so much as I became gradually more right wing and I canโ€™t think of many names I find unusable.

I have a not frum cousin named Dena who lives letโ€™s just say a very immoral life and I always knew Iโ€™d never have a Dena because of my association with the name. Well what do you think my YDD is named? Wink and I love the name now

My mentally ill grandmother was Malka and I never wanted to use it but now I think (with daas Torah ) maybe I would use Nechama Malka, Rina Malka etc .
There are also a few beautiful and common names that arenโ€™t useable with my last name .

So good to know my daughter is normal! Apparently my niece claims she knows a girl by that name, and my daughter is certain she is telling the truth ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

I think what it comes down to is that different people will always have different tastes. However, many Gedolim have said not to give a name that will cause your child embarrassment. So even if a name is from a beloved relative and means something beautiful in Yiddish or Russian or Somalian, if it has a negative connotation in todayโ€™s society, itโ€™s really cruel to subject your child to that.

Rasha! Wow never heard of that as a name. Must be pronounced with a long o sound. But still.

Neither did I. My sister just had a baby and named her Henna Rasha which I now know to be the full name of Rebbetzin Henny Machlis. She was a big inspiration to my sister. The baby is being called Henny.

I'm no fan of the name, but it's from ืžื—ื•ืœ, meaning dance, not the same root as illness.

I have an ugly Yiddish name, which I've told my kids they don't have to use. I wouldn't be offended if it turned up in this thread. I know it's an ugly name.

I can't believe no one mentioned Itchie as a name not to use.

Machla was my mum's name, she really didn't like it and went by her English name Marilyn.

I'm not a big fan of girls names that are originally boys names. eg Yosefa, Davida, Daniella, etc. They might be pretty names but I dislike the concept.

My husband had a coworker named Shome Porno LOL
Not that any other first name would help with the last name. But seriously, Shome?? (Israel, so no idea if the parents know English)

Yiska.
It's another name for Sarah Imeinu, but I've hated the way it sounds since my cousin named his daughter that many years ago.
Unfortunately, it's the name of my new granddaughter.
