my son has very loose bowel movements. he has never been constipated in his life. and always seems to have diarrhea, sometimes more watery than others. rarely does he have a formed stool.
is this normal? I never thought twice about it till now, I was just grateful not to have any trouble with constipation. now I'm wondering if there is a food that causes this.
any advice?

I would ask the dr on the next "well baby/child" visit.

Btw, when I was teaching 2 year olds, we were told that if a child has 2 loose bowel movements in a row to consider it diarrea and call the parents to pick him up. I guess it's within a short timeframe, though.

Actually watery and explosive, or just quite loose? The latter may just be his normal mode of operation. The former could be allergic, could be a mild infectious condition, or could be "toddler tummy" which is an actual medical diagnosis, not considered serious--just a way of saying there's nothing seriously wrong but some toddlers just do have continuous diarrhea for a few years then it clears up and the doctors have no idea why.

side note: I read that the best food for loose stomach is chicken soup with rice in it. somehow, the chemical makeup, and the absorbabant rice works well together

I have the same problem with my 17 month old daughter and asked the Dr. so far he has said just to make sure she drinks enough.

That's not exactly the answer I'm looking for! Rolling Eyes
