Wassili Grossman: Life and Fate.
Wassili Grossman was a (jewish) soviet war correspondent during WW2. He was famous for his lively reports, who took the perspective of the simple soldiers, and dwelled on details of every day life in war. He reported a lot from Stalingrad.
It took him 10 years (1950-1960) to write this novel, to honor his mother's memory, who was killed in Auschwitz. He tried to brush a broad portrait of humans in war, like "War and Peace" by Tolstoi.
That's the first time I read a novel about WW2 from the soviet perspective.
Grossman tried to publish his novel under Khrushchev. It was immediately confiscated and destroyed. Even for the Khrushchev-years, it was too critical of stalinism.
It's a very interesting book to read, just as much as you like at one go, set aside and take up again.

Idk fiction I guess but it’s very good. It’s very realistic.

Is there a new book by Henye Meyer? I thought I saw one in an ad, but I can't seem to find any info online. IMO she's one the best frum authors out there.
Found it, called "Who is Like your People" about Ovadiah the Ger. Menucha Publishers or from Judaica Plaza, most other stores don't seem to have it.

I think that's the one, it's from 2004. Says it's based on a true story.

That was the one about the law student, right? (I won't give away any more of it.) Truly fascinating and heart-wrenching book.

Pride and Preference.
Jewish spinoff of Prode and prejudice.
People who are into Jane Austin might get a kick out of it. It was fun reading.

I pick and choose the plots I follow and I feel free to navigate back and forth in the book. It also helps to set it aside for a while, digest and then open it up again to find something fascinating.
