I really like this baby boys name. And the nickname Azi.
Was this the name of a malach?
Is it in the tanach?
I want to know more about the origin and any people in tanach or the Talmud that have this name.

My son's name is Azriel and we call him Azi. As far as we know there is no significant Tanach Azriel. I think there was a Kabbalist named Azriel but we chose it because we loved the actual meaning-G-d is my help.
And we obviously loved the name and wanted something a little different but not too different. My son is now a toddler and I'm still obsessed with the name!

Azriel, is the angel of death. It's a very big thing in the Islamic texts.

There is some debate between scholars on the spelling, as some spell it Azrael, but it pretty much sounds the same, and they seem to be interchangeable.

Other sources say that Azrael is the angel of death, but Azriel is the angle of destruction.

So, yeah. Probably not the best choice.

I love your sons name!

I’m interested if anyone knows who the kabbalist Azriel is. And if the name is mentioned anywhere else.

This is not a Jewish concept at all.
Looks to be a belief in Muslim circles. I would not base a Jewish name on Muslim beliefs.

It’s a Hebrew name and has a completely different meaning then what you’re suggesting.

Asriel is son of Manasseh in the Bible.

The famous kabbalist is the Arizal. https://www.chabad.org/library.....l.htm

If you have nothing to add here other than telling me the Muslim beliefs associated with the name, then please don’t bother. I’m not talking about the Muslim Azrael angel.

This is a Jewish name. There are no negative associations with this name in Hebrew and it’s very offensive what you’re posting.

It's my father's name. He goes by his middle name though. My cousin has the same name and gets called Ezriel. Or Zreel for short.
I do know someone Azi but his name is Azarya.

I know someone who named their child Azriel after a very dangerous and complicated pregnancy, because of the beautiful meaning of the word- translated as עזר קל, Hashem helped.

No offence was intended. You posted that you didn't know anything about the name, you just liked the way it sounded. I was trying to give you some background.

I won't post anymore, I have nothing more to add.

The name appears in Tanach, in sefer Yirmiyahu.
It's not a name that you really hear here in Israel, at least in general and DL society. Don't know about Haredi circles and I also don't know why it's not more popular here cause the meaning is beautiful.
OTOH, you do sometimes hear the name here as a family name as well as variations on it like Azrielov and of course the famous Azrieli family and their eponymous chain of shopping malls, among other ventures they are associated with.
I am familiar though with the name from my childhood in the States. There were several Azriels that I remember growing up. Most were nicknamed Azi.

Rabbi Azriel Auerbach shlita.
Had I had a few more boys we would have gone back to Zaidy Azriel. I like the name!
