I live in South Florida and rarely make soup for Shabbat.
I eat very clean and low carb.

This Shabbat I’m having 2 young couples and 2 toddlers. The weather will get very cold for us.

What soups do ppl usually like? What do little kids like?
Chunky? Smooth?
I want something light that will still give them an appetite to eat the rest of the meal

I prefer smooth blended soup , but I don’t know if everyone enjoys that

For shabbos, chicken soup. Otherwise my kids enjoy butternut squash, potato leek, lentil soup, split pea, mushroom barley soup, onion soup, vegetable bean soup, potato soup.

Smooth, blended orange soup (any orange veggies like carrots, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, pumpkin, etc. Also an onion, some ginger, curry powder, and a bit of cinnamon. Cooked, pureed smooth, seasoned to taste). Great hot or cold.

Why not ask your guests what they like?

When I was a kid I would only eat clear chicken soup but I also don't know that I was ever introduced to like a creamy immersion blended type soup.

Again just ask your guests what kind of soup they like or maybe give a choice of three.

I’m looking for
1. Low carb
2. Light so they have an appetite for the rest of the meal, multiple courses
This is what I was planning

Plated red cabbage with pesto salmon and plain salmon
SOUP???
Meat appetizers- not negotiable, even though not low carb, I don’t eat this
Kibbe
Lachmajeen
Frank’s n Blank
Chicken fingers
Served with tehina and ketchup
Brisket
String bean with almonds slivers
Stewed zucchini and tomato
Rice with crispy top (yes I know it’s not low carb)
Dessert

Should I just ditch the soup
Or will a light soup be appreciated

Ditch the soup. You have so much food there. It's cold outside. I'm sure your home is warm.

This is a very full meal. If you want to serve soup, maybe stick to clear chicken soup and some carrot and sqaush from the soup.

You will never find a soup (or any other dish) that everyone would like. Even in one family. So make what you would like to eat and whoever doesn’t want it, will just skip it. Chicken soup is more traditional for Friday night, but you can make whatever suits your fancy or skip it all together. You have plenty of food.

And what would happen if everyone picked a different one? OP would be back to square one. The only question I would ask if there are any allergies.

I rarely make soup for Friday night because we live in Israel and it's warm 9 months a year. When I do, I rotate between creamy leek soup, creamy cauliflower soup, traditional chicken soup, and lentil soup.
I have a few kids who like butternut squash soup but the other types are liked by all.
When I do serve soup, my (teen) kids eat much less of the main course.
My toddler makes soup her meal.

You have plenty of food. Its definitely not required.

Omg, do you have room for me?

Your menu is amazing and there will be plenty of food. You can for sure skip the soup with this much food.

After the fast- good point!
I still think you have plenty of food. I do hear that it's very very nice to have a warm yummy soup after a fast. Chicken soup is really delicious and I would suggest that if you want a soup you should do that and maybe take off some of the appetizers.

But they will be well cared for either way. Just have some plain water out for drinking. Enjoy!
