Shabbos party! Purim is on Friday this year, so I'll take some nice chocolates for Friday night or milchig ones for shabbos morning.

As for costumes, I think I'll try to get my kids interested in dressing up as astronauts this year, because of the protective full-face helmet. My desire to escape the planet for a bit might have something to do with it, too.

Or if someone can think of a costume with a very wide circumference that a preteen boy would agree to wear... please share.

Challah rolls, dips, kugel or kokosh/cheese cake are nice to use for shabbos as Purim is Friday

You could do vitamin water, chicken soup, apples, oranges, manukah honey, etc. (food that is supposed to make you feel better) And soup works for shabbos too.

If people are still quaranting/cacooning then, a quarantine survival package. Chocolate, alcoholic drink, a magazine or jigsaw puzzle, recipe for sourdough. (and sourdough starter!!)

Maybe give MM to all the frontline workers you know...healthcare workers, shelf stackers in supermarkets, delivery people, teachers.

I personally find anything covid related to be distasteful. Maybe I just don't have the right sense of humor.

I'm from the group that thinks corona is a great theme😁😁
I like the idea of a covid survival kit, with tinned food and a puzzle and masks and syringe. Will be very cute.
If you could get hold of ppe clothes for your kids would be great, or, just have them as doctors and nurses

I really don't think it's cute until it's over in my opinion. Think of those who have lost loved ones, or are nurses and doctors trying to help cure people whilst having to be away from their own kids and families!

quarantine (war, rant, teen, warranty, ant)
corona (corn, crown, corona beer)
pandemic
negif נגיף
virus

So I was the OP here.

Some good ideas above!

I think I'm going to write the message in mirror image about how this whole past year has been "Venahafoch hu," and that therefore the appropriate theme for this Purim is "Back to normal"---

And then give my hamantaschen (of the recipe that everyone always wants afterward) and other super generic Shalach manos items.

And my kids can all dress up as they wish without any need to force them to coordinate!

I feel like this is something that wont ever be tasteful since so many people have died and gotten seriously ill. Even if you think it's funny there will be some people who will be offended that you did this as your purim "theme". I also feel like we are all going through this and it's so real that it's just so ordinary at this point. Dressing up in PPE or masks with disinfectant spray, etc. That's what it's like for us now. So what? It's not funny. It's sad for those who have lost people and the rest of us are all so tired and bored of it (I know bored it's the right word but I can't think of what I mean to say). We are all living this covid world every day there's nothing special about dressing up in something related. I'm tired of this all. I want it gone. I don't care to see mishloach monot and costumes related to it. OK well that's my opinion. You can think of something more creative than this I'm sure.

I saw this after I wrote my whole rant of a response. I like this idea.

I've noticed a lot of preteen boys seem to like the blowup costumes, like this

Someone touched on this, but how about the idea of aliens or astronauts with the idea that this planet has gotten so bad, it's time to find another!

Am I the only one who thinks giving candy in medicine bottles is a terrible idea?

A friend of mine gave candy in pill boxes one year, and then when we went to my parents' house, my toddlers ran to their medicine boxes and asked for candy. It was horrific and NOT FUNNY.;

I absolutely hate that idea in general, even before corona.

Last year when Covid was an unknown threat to most of us, some found it amusing to do themed corona shalach manot . By the year, most people it either brings back really bad memories or they are just tired of it. I can’t see any group of people who would enjoy such “creativity “. At most it would get an eye roll. Shalach manot are supposed to make people happy.
