Hi! I had very thin hair as a girl and I am nervous that my baby girl will also have thin hair. She was born with a head of hair but it’s very thin.
Someone recently told me In the chassidish satmar community they shave the baby’s hair so it should grow back thicker anyone know anything about this or anything else that can promote hair growth for my baby

I have never ever heard of this!!!!
Some people will give their daughter a layered haircut so it grows back thicker, but not shave it. They also wait till she is a little older and has more hair, like age 3.
Their are also hair thickening shampoos that you could look into. But I wouldn't recommend this for a young girl.

Too early to tell anything. Sometimes hair thickens at puberty. A 5 month old won't care but I can't imagine it helps.

You don’t want to use harsh chemicals on your 5-month-old and most products contain that. Most babies that age don’t have much hair, anyway.

Shaving doesn't make hair grow in thicker, since it's just like cutting but up against the scalp. This is a fallacy.

Shaving hair can't and won't change her genetic predisposition to thin/thick hair. It might temporarily make the hair appear thicker, because you'll have cut off the tapered ends and the regrowth will have thicker, blunt ends. But that's it.
(Side note, I have family that is middle eastern and they have the same belief. One ttold me that he wanted to shave his daughters' head for the same reason when they were a few months old, but his wife didn't agree)

OP, your baby is 5 months old, most 5 month old babies have little and thin hair, doesn't mean anything.

I don't know of anyone satmar that would shave the hair off a baby. I have no clue where you've got this idea from.

My daughter had thin hair that grew slowly so the hairdresser had us come every 2-3 months for a teeny tiny layered trim and eventually it grew in nicely.

All babies have thin hair at 5 months
It will get thicker in time be patient.
If not then it’s just happens she’s just meant to have thin hair

I hope you aren’t very gullible in general. Do you really believe people shave infants heads??! Cmon.
At 5 months just leave your baby as is. No need to worry at all.

I know someone who did this to her babies (not chassidish FTR). I don’t see how it’s possible to prove it works unless you only shave partially, which is pretty awkward. Either way, her babies always wore hats to cover up.

BTW- In Argentina, when a baby is born, in the hospital, they shave the baby’s head, so that the baby is nice and clean when given back to the mom.
I have a friend that was appalled that they did not do this in the US.

Why? It sounds so old fashioned. My baby had a head of dark hair I would never want it shaved.

My daughter gave herself a nice haircut.... She wound up with a number 2 her hair changed she lost her curlyish hair. Now it is straight. My other dd had her hair shaved at 18 months by my russian mil .her hair before was wispy etc. I guess it grew in better. I kind of liked taking care of shorter hair no brushing .... Etc
