What is ניחה a nickname for? Is it its own name?
We never knew my husband's grandfather ah had sisters until we just found their names in the Yad Vashem database hy"d. One of the names submitted was ניחֵה. What is it? In case it helps, they were from Poland. Thank you.

It’s its own name. The nickname is Nichy.
I know a Bobover woman named Nicha and a Viznitz woman named Nichy.

My Mom is Nicha. That’s the actual name. No idea what it means, though. Hungarian, if it makes any difference.

I have a niece nichah. Spelled in Hebrew how you wrote. It is her Hebrew name. Very unusual in yeshivish circles. But it suits her.

Correct spelling is with a vuv but people accidentally put a yud all the time. My family researched this spelling. It is:
נוחה
It comes from Menicha/Menucha.
Common in Chassidishe crowd.

That's spelled נעכא and is Yiddish. We have it too but there is also a name נוחה which is Lashon Hakodesh.

As far as I know, Necha comes from Nechama.
I don't know about Nicha/Nucha, but it make sense that it would come from Menucha...
