Hi all,

I’m feeling kind of sad and can’t really express that in real life. My beautiful little not-yet 5 year old daughter will need to wear glasses due to astigmatism in one eye. I’m upset. She has such a yummy little face that will now be obstructed by these glasses sitting there all day, all the time.
Of course, to her I’ve only acted super excited and positive about the whole thing. And thank G-d so far she seems to be taking it well.

But me...I’m having a hard time.
I’m going to miss her unobstructed pure little face. I’m going to miss seeing her beautiful eyes without glass in the way.

My DD also got glasses at a relatively young age (IIRC first grade). I remember that another Mom called me up all excited when DD got glasses, because her DD in the same class was no longer the only one, and was so excited that DD got them.....

My DD actually looked very cute in those glasses - tiny little frames. And you will still see her pure little face behind them. Plus, she will be able to see yours better.

It's okay to have a hard time with such changes....it will pass B"EH.

Op, I get you. I did the same to an adorable three-year-old boy.
And yes, it was hard. It was a frightening step for me too.

It was so difficult for me, especially since the type of glasses he needed magnified his eyes, and really affected his look. Over time, and after I consulted with better specialists I learned to pay extra for the lenses that really made him look best.
It seems like your prescription won't do that, and she'll look adorable, once you get used to it.
For girls these days, glasses are a fashion statement. Keep that in mind too, even as you give yourself the time to get used to this...

Its good youre staying positive with her. My little cousin that age has glasses, and her mom was dillegent to get her very cute/stylish glasses for her face. Theres lot of options out there. Youd be suprised. You can get something that enhances her cute features.

I just got glasses for myself and I used Zenni and I'm going to suggest them because they have a ton of really cute frames and maybe finding something cute and pretty will help make you feel better about it obviously include your daughter in the decision but there are a ton of options so I would say look through them pick your favorites and then maybe let your daughter pick from those maybe it'll just make you feel better and connected plus is any has a really cool you can take a picture of her face and they have a virtual trion and maybe it'll make you feel better

Thank you all so much for the kind words and support. So we already went to the glasses store and I let her pick whatever she wanted since I wanted her to excited. The frames are cute but definitely not subtle and chic.

But I wanted her to be happy!! So I got the ones she chose.

Even if inside I’m sad.

That's perfect. Preschoolers glasses should be cute and not subtle and chic. My daughter got glasses at 4 for extreme nearsightedness. She got the most adorable round red glasses. Literally circles. She looked even cuter with them. Or made her look perky and alert as she was no longer squinting.

Two of my girls got glasses for their 3rd birthday. I love little ones in glasses. Which is a good thing because astigmatism is genetic and my other kids are at risk of it as well.

DD got glasses when she was 3, because of a lazy eye. Everyone in the community went CRAZY over her! One friend of mine said "I did not think that she could possibly get cuter, but oh my gosh, just look at her now!"

How could you not love this face? https://scontent.ftlv2-1.fna.f.....AD12F

She got so much positive attention, that she never once said that she hated her glasses, or wanted contacts. She's 17 now, and still rocking the stylish frames as part of her "signature look."

I have 2 girls, both needed glasses very young. My older one has an adorable cute face and at age 4 we got her round red glasses and she looked adorable! I did not have a hard time with it.
My now 3 year old just got glasses - like 2 weeks ago. (After we discovered that she’s blind in one eye - wild story) I was so sad about hers because her face was more beautific than cherubic if that makes sense... we got her clear glasses with silver glitter in them. She looks precious but I it definitely took getting used to! I find that when I style her hair in certain ways it looks better than with other ways.

Thank you everyone! I so appreciate the validation of my feelings and the reassurance that it will be fine iyH.

FF, your daughter looked adorable as a child and looks fabulous as an adult!

As an aside, I hope that my daughter won’t tire of the glasses once the novelty wears off. Wearing them won’t make her see any differently since she’s seeing fine now- just one eye is doing most of the work. So it’s not like she’ll have the appreciation of better vision to keep her motivated to wear the glasses.

My daughter got glasses at the age of six. She loves her glasses. She actually does not have to wear them all the time, but she insists on it. She is turning eight now. I let her pick whatever glasses she wanted, which are pink and purple. She looks adorable in them. She has a very low prescription, but claims she sees much better in them. It was hard for me also in the beginning, but at this point I actually think she looks so cute in them And I really doesn't bother me anymore.
As an aside, my son wore glasses for about a year and a half. And then he lost his glasses, I asked the doctor for a prescription to get new ones and it turned out he didn't need anymore... Maybe you'll be lucky also.

My daughter got glasses shortly after she turned 3. I was heartbroken. She's 7 now and it's a part of her and I can't imagine her any other way. So many little kids wear glasses and you can get really cute ones and I think little kids are adorable in glasses.

My kid got glasses at 2. It helped him look better. When I look at pictures from before or if he wasn't wearing them he couldn't focus so he had a confused look on his face.
