My baby is still in the hospital. He had already 7 times an iv put in Sad
And every time it takes a few times until it succeeds. Last night they tried 8 times. They brought over a specialist to do it. He is blue all over. So it was very hard to put a new one. They ended up putting it on his head because there he didn't have it put yet before. They had to shave him a little Broken Heart . I was extremely careful it shouldn't move even though the dr said I can act like it's not there. And guess what this morning I wake up and it's not there , it fell out Crying Crying Crying
I can't deal with thise anymore. My baby is literally traumatized and I'm at the end of my koach. I can't see him suffer anymore Help Broken Heart Crying

Oy! I really really feel for you. I went nuts when my baby had an iv in the NICU. I remember I once by mistake knocked it out and I felt so guilty. First of all see if your baby really needs the iv. If he does have the best nurse put it in and make sure your baby is very hydrated as that can make it easier.
I’m so sorry you you’re going through this. I will daven that your little one doesn’t suffer anymore. May he come home soon!

I asked them if they can give him injections instead. But they said no. This is the most effective and strong way to get antibiotics

Oh no... you and your baby are going through so much!!! One of the most difficult things for a parent is to see his child in pain. Hashem should send your baby a Refuah and yeshua b’korov! I will ask my mother for advice on the IV since she’s been a pediatric nurse in the hospital for many years. I’ll let you know bli neder what she says.

if this will still require a bit of iv access, see if they would considor putting in a PICC line?

Some nurses are much better then others in getting the IV in . Ask around in the NICU who is the best at it and see if they will let you use her. Many hugs!

Oy, that is the most painful thing! They tried three times for my baby one time, and then I didn't let them anymore. Then the doctor said that she doesn't need it after all...

It is so hard to get the IV in and then it falls out so easily! Even with a splint and a million bandages.

I found that squeezing and unsqueezing DD's hand repeatedly helped her handle the attempts a little better, but yes we were both crying together Crying

Refuah Sheleimah for your baby!

One nurse did a really good job before but she wasn't here last night. I will ask if she comes today. He only needs it for a few more days hopefully, so they won't do anything drastic.

I’m so sorry! My baby had an IV put in when he was 2 weeks old, I remember I couldn’t stop crying. Then at a certain point it came out of the vein and his little hand swelled up to double its size.
I’m sending you hugs!

Hugs Hug Hug
Btdt...

Regarding insertion- see if the hospital has a vascular team and can do it ultrasound guided. That saved us quite a few times.

Yes, they tend to pop out so fast by the very same kids whose so hard to get in...

Agree with happyone- we’ve done picc line even when it wasn’t for very long but there were no alternatives.

Lastly, maybe speak to infectious disease doctor to see if there are absolutely no alternatives. We’ve had once that after top PICU nurses, transport nurses and every other doctor tried to no avail (this on a 15 month old tzadeikus in hospitalization #toomanytocount) they did end up doing rocephin injections and linezolid via gt instead of ceftriaxone and vancomycin.

Maybe they can go back to the first vein that worked?
After a million Ivs and lab draws, we now know there is ONE good vein and we alway just go there. Hashem should help it should stay that way... anesthesia team did find us another vein in her leg that works, but there were too many pokes evident of them not listening to me... but I guess it’s good as a backup...
