DS is almost 9. He has a major amount of energy, and it's causing a lot of issues . Never mind what's going on at home, he keeps getting kicked out of class cuz he can't sit still and he talks out of turn. Since the beginning of the year, its been getting worse and worse. Everything at home is stable, bh.
School wants me to put him on meds, but I'm very scared. What am I to do?

A kid like that needs medicine. It's not fair to the child for him to suffer.

You can try a sensory diet, but it sounds like he's in a bad cycle of behavior and probably needs meds to learn how to regulate himself again.

Have you had him evaluated to see if he has adhd or some other issue?
That would be the first step

I agree, an evaluation is a good first step.

Separately, you should also understand what the school environment is like. It may be that your child would do better in another school.

I have a child with ADHD who functions very well in school without medication. While every child is different, the classroom environment matters a lot too. In my child's school, a lot of work is done independently or in pairs, with children permitted to work on the floor or at a desk and to walk around to get things or use the restroom as necessary. There is not a lot of sit-still-and-listen-with-the-whole-class time. I suspect that my child would have a lot more behavior issues in some other schools.

Finally focused by James greenblatt, md. Book to address root causes of adhd without medication.
