Just don't leave the mug unattended while it's full of bleach, dilute or otherwise. That's why I use full strength or almost full strength bleach: It works fast so I can pour it in, swirl it around, pour it out and rinse rather than leave it soaking.

I put 1-2 teaspoons of baking soda into each mug & then fill with hot water. Let sit for about an hour, then scrub with long handled brush or plastic scrubber. Brown stuff comes right off. Works every time.

I use the spray nozzle from the sink. Wait for the temp to reach hottest. The power of the stream directly may be able to clean it out
