For those who do not want to volunteer for research on gene therapy, (moderna, pfizer), Johnson & Johnson has a vaccine available. It is more reliable than the flu vaccine in its better years.

I was really excited for this j&j shot. But then in all the newspapers they wrote it's only 86% effective. So now I don't know what to think.

Flu shot on a good year is 50%. That is the nature of vaccines and viral. I heard 66%. But everyone is fine with those numbers for flu.

86% effective is pretty good, and it's a 1-dose vaccine.

mRNA is not gene therapy. It doesn’t affect your DNA at all. Very excited about the j+j since it’s one dose!

It was the nature of certain vaccines, namely flu. We've learnt to improve on that now. Many other vaccines given against viruses (like measles) had a much higher level of effectiveness.

No one is really fine with the low level of efficiency of the flu vaccine. Its actually often quoted as a reason why people don't take that vaccine. We're lucky that flu also has a lower mortality rate than Corona. A higher risk disease needs a more effective vaccine.
