You can get childcare if not working somehow. My neighbors children go free of charge. Ages 3-4. Sometimes with bussing. Great programs.
It’s head start, it’s meant to give kids from low income families a quality early childhood education.

Maybe now because of covid things are different? Those in the know chime in.
I think you can get away with practically anything right now. Eventually maybe the programs will get their act together? On this board it seems that some posters are collecting unemployment when they didn’t hold a job and don’t plan to get one. These are good times for those that want to game the system.

All programs including welfare, you need to show income as working to receive benefits.
For welfare, even a single mom with kids, needs to have a job, if she doesn't have one, the city will send her out to sweep the streets...

Some programs you need both parents to work like childcare, daycare, vouchers. Vouchers is supposed to be for after school, when ps is done but none of parents are home from work, so kids shouldn't roam streets

Yes there is some kind of program that pays for shoes if you manage to get a doctor say you need orthopedic shoes and they give vouchers to use at 14th Avenue shoes. I have no idea how this works as I don't live in Brooklyn, but that's just what I heard from others Wink

When I lived in Staten Island my son needed special shoes their was no place to buy them, I cold up the HMO they gave me a list of # for all 5 boro's all of them said they ether stop ed taking the HMO or did not do infants. I called up one of the medical rep. groups that add. and was told they don't do shoes. My son really needed it so I paid for it.

Their has to be a store that takes your insurance for it to work.

I know a few people doing the Medicaid shoe thing for their whole family every season. You left something out. Clothes, country or vacation is covered by tax returns!

Medicaid covers transportation to appointments, it's not a new thing.

No transportation is Not for everything.
Not 300 for unemployment ( dd getting 180)
Section 8 impossible to get
Discount metro card inly if you are working

No phone discount but yes HEAP( help for heating) about 350 for the whole winter
You have to prove income and expenses 3 tomes a year.
Now because of corona they have temporarily frozen recertification.
Shoes is for special medical needs- dh is diabetic so he gets shoes twice a year and inserts for his flat feet.

I thought under the last stimulus that unemployment benefits include an additional $300 per person at this point.

All of my previous doctors and hospital system take my new coverage. I won’t have to switch doctors at all. I’m sorry for your experience.

Almost everything related to Medicaid (coverage, eligibility, provider networks...) varies by state. Medicaid in NY or NJ is much different than, say, Medicaid in Florida.
