The other thread about wearing red shirts got me thinking,
I didn’t grow up in a frum household but married into one -
It took me four years of marriage to realize none of my sister in laws wear red polish, except for maybe one. I grew up wearing pinks blues reds and everything in between... is it so bad to have red polish?

I think it's better than black or electric blue shades, lol.

I very very seldom see frum women in red nail polish. I don't think it's very acceptable. It's not a refined look.

It all depends on community. Some places wouldn’t think twice about it and in others it would definitely stand out.

Some people could pull it off (I'm not referring to the kinda red that's assur acc. To Halacha, more like various shades.)
I'd say ask your mentor. It's also about the whole look.

In Lakewood, lighter colors (soft pinks, pearl, taupe) are considered more refined and tzanuah. They stand out less.

I was taught (BY) not to wear any color polish above nude/pink. I identify more with RW MO now but still do this, it think it’s a refinement thing (I don’t think we’ll see Dutchess Kate in red polish)

It's bright. In Israel polish is frowned upon but if people do wear its nude or pink.

You know, it's interesting. I really don't like how dark colors look, not from a tznius perspective- I just think pink is much prettier.
I'm wondering though whether that's because I grew up "brainwashed" (not a good word lol) to think that pink = pretty and everything else = inappropriate, and if that wasn't how I was raised I would think dark colors are pretty too

I don't because I wasn't brought up like that and I'll feel too conscious of it in my circles so I stick to grey, pinks, browny pink etc. More toned down colours are more refined but it's what you're used to. If other mothers who send to your kids schools wear red polish then it's fine. It's not ossur it's just more attracting.

I live in Israel. Most of my community wears red nailpolish.
There is no rule that the entire country follows.

For sure. I live in a community where there are all types. I personally won't bejewel my nails, let's say, and I prefer neutral tones. I rarely wear nail polish at all (BY upbringing). But I would probably compliment someone on their done-up nails if I saw them, even if I wouldn't wear it.
However, it's different in communities where the dress code is more rigid. The social norms kind of flow from the schools there. So if your school has a no-polish rule for the girls, and you see other women keeping it neutral or nonexistent in your community, then that's your cue.
ETA - my wardrobe are mostly long, flowy, colourful outfits. So I'm definitely not anti-colour here.

What Chayalle said. I've gotten my nails done professionally once or twice, always light pinks. I also like when they're not the milky opaque pinks I feel like the more transparent colors aren't as showy.

I live in Israel and I wear bright nail polish. I actually just started but I decided that I need some fun in my life. I know it's probably not accepted everywhere and not accepted it all my kids schools but honestly I just don't care anymore. I dress very tzinus but bright colors make me happy.
