Is this story a true one?

I would like to tell you the following story that I heard a while ago.

A long time before covid, a man had been to a chasuna and was driving home along the highway late at night. He had probably had a little too much to drink and must have been driving badly so the police signalled to the man to pull over. They were telling the driver that they were going to have to do a test to check how much he had drunk and if he was over the limit when suddenly there was a very loud bang. The police looked at where the sound was coming from and it turned out there was another crash nearby. So the police told the Jewish car driver to stay where he was and they would come back as soon as they could as they could see it was not a big crash.
The man was waiting for the police to come back and it was very late at night and the police were taking so long that the driver decided to take his car and drive home. He went home and went to sleep.
The next morning there was a knock at his door. The man went to the front door to find two police officers standing there. They asked him if he was o.k. and he said yes. They then asked him where his car was at that moment. He thought what a stupid question and answered: "In my garage." The police asked him to taken them to his garage. He got the key, opened up his garage and was quite shocked to find a police car parked in his garage.

Do you think this is a true story or made up?

Truth can be stranger than fiction, but this sounds pretty fantastical. If someone claimed this story to be true, I would have a LOOOOOT of questions.

Sounds like an urban legend.

How did the guy switch from his car to the police car?

Why did the police leave their empty car right near him and not take it to the scène of the other crash?

Why did the police wait until the morning and not right when they came back and found their car was gone?

Have you ever seen the inside of a cop car? Even half asleep, there's a lot going on at the dashboard. Pretty hard to confuse it for anything else.

I heard this joke a long long time ago without the person being jewish part in it.
It's definitely not true because if a police car goes missing they generally don't wait to chase after it.
