One of my son's has an amazingly creative Rebbi who has amazing contests.
At the beginning of the year, he gives out (for hand-raising, pointing, following) a strip of shiny paper. The last class before sukkos, the boys make a chain with the paper. The more cooperative, the longer the chain.
In the middle of the year, he gives out cards with the names of sifrei tanach, names of shisha sidrei mishna. They have to collect, trade, etc to get the whole set, or even 4 of each to play.
Along the way, they learn the names of the sefarim.
This is 1st grade.
What other amazing contests have your Rebbis, teachers done that aren't expensive or candy.
