What about 2 reclining 3 seater couches & 2 matching recliners?

I'm not sure if I have space. I know some people put a couch or chair in the middle of their room but I like them to be out of the way against a wall.

I have an open living room-dining room, like a narrow rectangle and windows on both ends. My sectional is now against the living room window and adjoining left wall. The right side has no wall, it's open to my front entrance. In between the living room and dining room is a fireplace on the left wall with a small bit of wall across it on the right side. I'm not sure if it will look okay to put a small sofa or recliners against that wall since it's not close to the main couch area. Would that be odd? To have another couch a bit away from the other couches? I'm afraid to buy and then it will be too late if I don't like it.

Do have a rug in the living room? You can have the front feet of the couches that are against the wall lay slightly over the rug and then “anchor” the arm chairs (or love seat or whatever) floating on the other side of the rug. The backs of the chairs would be facing the dining room. This sort of layout actually tricks the eye to think the room is bigger because it creates two separate rooms in one with the entrance way between the two rooms.

Sounds like my LR/DR setup is very similar to yours. I have the sectional where you have yours, and an additional 2-seater couch opposite the living room window, visually separating the LR from the DR. There is a coffee table in the middle so the whole area is tied together. I know you said you prefer couches against the wall, not in the middle of the room, but something may have to give somewhere in order for you to have sufficient sitting/lounging space for your family!

I have avoided recliners (although my kids love to lie on them) because they tend to break.

When placing the furniture also keep in mind the traffic flow from entranceway to LR to DR; make sure your couch(es) don't block that.

Thanks for your input!
I have a rug by the sectional by the window that doesn't extend past it.
I know people put couches in the middle of a room but I would really hate that look. It would block traffic from lr to dr and I need a room to feel spacious and clutter free. Everything against a wall, lots of space in the middle. This is why I don't do coffee tables or ottomans.
If I use that space in between my lr and dr across the fireplace for a small couch maybe it would elongate the room. I hesitate to do it also because when we have a lot of shabbos meal guests I use that space to extend my dining room.

I like this - can teens actually sit on them or is rather to be used as a foot rest?

Yeah. It is very inn now to have them around your seating area.

You can definitely get custom made 4 seater couches. Each 4 seater is divided into two seats. Like a sectional without the middle piece. You have to go to a furniture store that custom makes furniture.
