Red potatoes cut into tiny cubes
Ketchup
Honey
Prima sweet paprika

Before serving I pull apart all the meat with forks and mush it up into the cholent

Those are the “special” things I use in addition to the regular ingredients of onion, meat, salt, pepper, paprika, barley and cholent mix.

Sweet potato and whole fresh mushrooms, yum!

Ooooo mushrooms! I'll try that. Sweet potato I tried once or twice, was not a hit with my family.

I put honey or molasses. It adds so much! And marrow bones make the meat nice and soft

Must be out of this world! I love that stuff. Sadly, my family hates it (yes, they're crazy) so usually only get to add it to food once already cooked and on my plate. Sad

It’s amazing! Here’s my cholent “recipe”

Add a bit of oil to crock pot, add chopped onions and meat and sauté/sear for a few min. Then add lots of umami spice, paprika (for color), and onion soup mix and sauté for a min more. Add beans and barley, mix, add a drizzle of honey and mix again. Add water and mix. Cook overnight

I make vegetarian chollent, but the thing I love to add to make it really special works just as well with regular fleishig chollent: jachnun. Added right on top of the chollent. It cooks slowly over shabbat and is a really tasty addition.

saute onions, then fry potatoes and spices with it, including a little cayenne pepper. Later add it to barley, beans and meat that were first boiled together, simmer for a few hours
