Op, if you like history, I recommend The Battle for Jerusalem by Abraham Rabinowitz (was recently reprinted). Straight up history but very gripping, reads like a novel of suspense.

I also like “The Aleppo Codex” because it was well written. Also “Suddenly Jewish” about people who suddenly found out they were Jewish. Also “Shush” by Emil Draitser about growing up Jewish under Stalin. So I look for Jewish themes written by very Jewish minded authors who might not be religious. Also “The Endless Steppe”. These are all books I read during Covid.

Have you read Seven Blessings, In the Courtyard of the Kabbalist, and I'm not sure what else by Ruchama Feuerman King? Her books might be available from your local library.

I was intrigued so I looked online and yes, it’s a new book that I’ve never read before. Interesting that they would use the same title as an existing one.

A terrific book! At least I thought so when I read it in my 20’s...

I just remembered there's a book called Ayuni that will be released soon by Sarah Ansbacher. It's a romance between an Ashkenazi and a (Yemeni) Jew from Aden. I will comment once it's out

I was just in the store and bought this book. It looks very good. https://judaicaplaza.com/produ.....59271
I think it’s about a woman who has 8 kids and gets divorced and suddenly has to deal with having no kids at home since they go to their father who is remarried. Not really sure but that’s what I think the story is about.

Anyone read new book "Where is the daughter I raised?". I think I know the author and wondering what type of read it would be.

ETA: I read through Jewish fiction very quickly so I have branched out to add nonfiction and self help. Also I loved Pride and Preference. |
I thought "The Man in the White Sharkskin Suit" was very well written and interesting. Just a note to any more religiously discerning Ima that the views expressed by the author would make some people on this forum uncomfortable.

If you read her follow up book of memoirs, you will see she expresses regret for having left the religious world.

Another suggestion, I am planning to buy a book that just came out called The Plunder by Menachem Kaiser. It's getting rave reviews. It's the about the author's search for family property that belonged to his grandfather's family before the Holocaust. I downloaded a sample from the kindle version and the first chapter is well written and gripping. (Also, I don't know if the author is currently frum, I sort of got the impression that he is not, but he comes from a frum background.)
