please dont name him sylvester if possible. it means wild. it became famout after pope sylvester who in the late antique/very early middle ages was known to be a terrible antisemite and who forbade jews to stay in jlem and arranged festive pogroms encouraged to slaughter children and abuse jewish women...
I live in europe where new year selebrations are named after him. I wonder how this can be. I guess its just not taught in school.
obviously there are famous modern figures caled sylvester too.
I had ancestors before ww2 named adolf, but NOT after ww2.
I know stalins ame was josef, and we continue naming josef OBVIOUSLY naming after yoseph hazadik...I understand that EVERY name can be associated with anything , but sylvester just rubs me the wrong way. maybe im too senstitive.
