My daughter's hair is curly like mine. The problem is that I never figured out how to deal with my own hair, so now I'm at a loss with her.

I've used variations of leave-in conditioner, the Fructis curl spray, curl cream, and mousse at different times. It looks really cute after the bath and perhaps the rest of that day (at least until she lies down on it). By the next day, though, it's a curly, frizzy mess. It can look reasonably cute in a bun, but I don't want to be putting it in a bun all the time. I see all the other girls her age with their hair down in headbands, and I don't want her to be as limited in her options as I was when I was a kid!

What can I do, especially on Shabbos day or after the first night of Yom Tov?

But it's still all kinky and I can't really brush it out, even with the water.

Also, I can't do that on Shabbos and Yom Tov.

Piggy buns are so cute with curly hair.
Spray with no more tangles and a little water in the morning, brush into a middle part and put a little mousse on the front for the flyaways

Thanks for the idea!

What is no more tangles?

And what should I do on Shabbos and Yom Tov?

She doesn't sit still long enough to let me braid it. Sad

Also, it's an issue on Shabbos because then I can't unbraid it afterward.

Never brush curly hair. Only use a wide tooth comb on wet hair.
On shabbos day, you can spray with water and sort of finger comb it. You will probably still need to pull it back, tho.

Don't the braids come apart by themselves? But then it looks messy anyway. If she's willing to keep it on, a band is great. Or a good headband (which is technically the same thing)

You never brush curly hair. Only comb when I’m the bath covered in conditioner

(You can’t use a spray bottle of water on shabbos? Never heard That sorry)

She doesn't like to keep the headband on, but I bobby pin it. The biggest problem is that the back looks like one big knotty, frizzy mess.

What's the difference between the comb and the brush on wet hair?

So I'm stuck with pulling her hair back Shabbos day? Sad Not that I mind for my own sake since it's easier for me, but I see all the other girls with their hair down and these cute accessories...

Brushes are for straight hair. Wide tooth comb on wet hair in bath only is for curly. This is curly hair 101

(Where did u learn that you can’t use a spray bottle of water on shabbos? I’ve literally never heard this and I went to BY schools)

It's interesting - I never found that a wide-toothed comb did anything to help my own hair. Why is that the rule of thumb for curly hair? I only ever touched it when wet, but still, wide-toothed doesn't give it any sort of shape.

Probably for now, yes. When she gets a bit older and you can use heavier gel and sort of shape the curls with your fingers it may last the next day. Depends on her hair, there are diff types of curls.

Brushing curls will just brush them out and make hair dry and frizzy. You don't need to brush to give shape, you form the curls by swirling the wet hair with your finger.
You can look on the Ouidad website for both tips and kids products.
