Hey,

Was wondering how everyone stores their yeast.

I had mine in a ziplock bag in a cabinet can I still use it? Will it work for challah?

This. Literally for several years, which is how long it takes me to use up a 2-lb bag. And mine isn't even a deep-freeze, just the freezer compartment of a fridge.

I store it in a plastic container in the fridge. It lasts for how long it takes for it to use up which is about 5-6 months

I wonder. Since it says keep refrigerated once open.

I keep mine in the freezer also. I’ve never had it go bad, but I also go through it pretty quickly. At different times in my life I’ve also kept it in the fridge or the cabinet. If you are worried about whether the yeast you have is still good, sprinkle a small amount into some warm water with a little sugar. If it gets foamy within 5-10 minutes, you’re good to go.

Bloom the yeast, if it bubbles it's still active. And keep it in the fridge/freezer from now on

I buy a Costco pack, then use our vacuum sealer to make smaller packages of it to freeze. I pull out one at a time, and store in a jar in the fridge for a few months until gone.

It keeps for several years.
