It's NOT working for me. I need better routine or ideas. Little kids. What are your secrets?

Following. I was already in a terrible mood this week
I’m thinking to stop napping. Usually dh and I alternate, this week I woke up to a really hot house (heat was still on bec we were unsure) they house was a huge mess etc. maybe ill push myself not to nap and go to sleep after I put my kids in at 7:30

We always got out in the afternoons. It’s a must. No naps here.
What parts aren’t working for you?

Have an older girl or kid take them outside while you catch a nap.

Just go on a walk for the sake of being outside (and taking up time Smile )

our day:
7:00- woke up
had breakast
I read on the sofa a bit while the kids read and played on their own
I read a couple of books to them
I played legos with them
we read some more books
10:30- we had snack time
1 year old went for a nap, I got lunch together while my preschooler played on his own
1 year old woke up from nap
we had lunch
played in the backyard for a bit
went to visit family - we don't usually go to visit anyone specific though. Usually just go on a family walk around an hour after lunch and then come home and play. Taking a walk really helps for all of us. It's nice to be out and something different going on the day and it tires the kids out a bit and they play nicely once we get home.
we get home and have a snack and the kids usually play by themselves a bit while my husband and I play a card or board game (and we keep a pack of cards nearby to give the kids when they come over wanting to touch whatever it is we are playing).
then I usually play a few board games with my preschooler
dinner for the kids and then bedtime.

It is a long day but we try to break it up and keep to our usually schedule. What part are you finding difficult especially? we can help you think of ideas.

We go on a walk in the morning. Then again after the meal. And yet again later in the afternoon. The kids play outside basically the entire day.

I think certain things make Shabbos harder for some then others;
Small apartment
No backyard
No family or friends walking distance
No eruv
Difficult children
Difficult or no spouse

Even one of these things can make a long Shabbos afternoon much harder.

Yes. I’ve got all of the above and shabbos can be pure torture.
I make sure we all have what to read and that there are good snacks and good healthy foods.
That’s all I can do.
We try to go for walks.
Not always possible.

We try to eat the meal late in order to break up the day.
Shul’s done before 12 and thats way too many hours till 8-9pm. (Kids obviously eat a full breakfast upon waking up)
So when my husband gets home, we take a walk, play a game with the kids, snack on smthn etc
We then start the meal at 2-3pm followed by a nap if possible and before u know it the day is almost over.

Make kiddush after shul, and then have lunch later to break up the day.

Take a nap.
Go for a walk.
Meet a friend.
Read a book/magazine.
Go to a shiur (Corona permitting. Last summer we had a lot if outside shiurim)
Learn something - maybe with a friend.
Go to shul for mincha with your husband - again Corona permitting. It's less common for women to go to mincha, but there's no reason why not.
Go to a Tehillim group
Start a Tehillim group! Maybe one for young girls if you feel like it.

I am also struggling! I am in my 8th month and really need Shabbos to unwind after an exhausting week. But after a very long day of chasing my 2 and 5 year olds around a crowded park, and then with Shabbos ending so late, being up until past 12:30 cleaning, dealing with hungry big kids, and catching up on laundry from Pesach!!!, I am starting off the new week even more exhausted. (Up now with kvetchy 2 year old) When will I just collapse?

Play with your children. Read to them. Put them down to nap as well. Go for a walk with them. Put them to sleep before shabbos goes out if that's your thing. I personally don't like that but some people do it.

You talk to your children or you talk to yourself (are you a single parent or is your husband a person you can. Speak to as well?) going out and speaking to people are not mutually exclusive

Since I had my first child, my relationship with shabbos has never been the same. I dread shabbos so much and all the suggestions I can implement are just bandaids, not actually solving the issue. Tiny apartment, very young kids who can't walk to the park, no backyard and no eruv. It's just hard. Nothing more can be said or done to change it.

Shabbos toys that aren’t available during the week. Snuggle time!! Lying on the couch telling each other stories and drawing on each others’ backs (you guess what the other person is drawing). Giving each other chills. Making stuffed animals talk. Singing songs. Telling stories about things that have happened to you. I love Shabbos with little kids. So cozy!
