I am due soon with a boy PG.
I would like to name him after a deceased family member who happened to be called Koppel. Obviously Koppel is not a name I would like to use, so I was thinking of naming him Yaakov Koppel, seeing as Koppel is the Yiddish derivative of the name Yaakov.
My husband says that this name combination is not so uncommon in chareidi circles in the USA, but we made aliyah recently and I would like to know if, in chareidi Israeli society, my son will be teased or feel weird that his second name is Koppel. We would call him by his first name alone, but his second name won't be a secret, in terms of shul etc...
Thoughts please?

I think it’s totally fine if he will go by Yaakov. Koppel depends on the neighborhood. Many kids/people have interesting Yiddish names. Once the kids get used to it, they accept it.

Tons of people have a Yiddish second name, it’s no big deal.

Thanks.
In that case, would it be strange to do another combination with Koppel, or it should remain that combination?
Eg Netanel Koppel, is that weird?

I never heard of Koppel without Yaakov. It's a combination like Menachem Mendel.
