So, my DS went through some changes in his life. He keeps on having accidents and is not going back to the good old days!!!
He refuses to go back o diapers and all his promises that next time he is going to go dont get us anywhere.
We tried from instant reward to charts etc. nothing helps.
I take him to the bathroom and 20 minutes later his pants are wet again.
We can sometimes stand at the toilet with the water running for 10 minutes straight. After nothing comes, we pull up his pants and 5 minutes later they are wet.
I am loosing my mind!!
I need ideas - advice that actually works!

Mums, if you were in my boat, please tell me things are gonna get better soon!! I cant anymore!!

Reward for staying dry, not for using the bathroom.

Put him into pull-ups and train him another time.

He needs love and attention and ignoring the toilet training. It's called regression to an earlier age and it's normal and will get better with time and understanding.

You totally can. Assuming they take them to the bathroom every two hours he’ll get used to that schedule pretty fast, and tell the rebbi to call you if he poops. you’ll go change him if he does. It’s not a big deal. They deal with this a lot.

Secondly stop stressing him and yourself out and look at the situation from a place of compassion. I’m assuming he was away for more than a day or two? And that is very traumatic for a toddler his age. Sorry you’re dealing with this.

Roll with it. Encourage him to use the bathroom when you see signs he needs to. Don’t get emotional about it, be neutral. Pressure backfires. Remind him pee goes in the toilet after the accident, don’t offer rewards or make threats. If it was simply a life change that caused the regression he’ll get back on track with a little bit of time and consistency. Accept there will be accidents in the meantime.

Signed, a mom whose 4 year old has regressed countless times around transition periods and knows that nothing but patience and consistency will get you through it.
