They came in to sing, they came to join
And most of all, to pray
To celebrate in unity
On this auspicious day.
They came with inspiration
To bonfires burning bright
With purest of intentions
To share the holy light.
And then, disaster -- and this time
Will never be the same.
And yet, there were no terrorists
Nobody else to blame.
But blame is what we must avoid
And search instead within
For how we each can turn the loss
Towards what we must begin.
Why this happened here and now
Is something we can't know.
We cry, we mourn, yet we must say
It's asher bidvaro.
Hashem, please gather all our tears
So precious in Your sight
As kindling in the heavens for
A bonfire of Your light.
And let us know that we can't know
All we can do is care
And try to make this world we're in
A place where all can share.
Help us to join, in love, in song
And most of all, to pray
For in devastation or in joy,
You're with us all the way.
