Hi we recently discovered my daughter can’t eat gluten. I always look at wrappers but what candies do you know off hand that contain gluten and I should know to avoid?
I’m aware of-
Licorice
Oodles
Jolly ranchers
Sour belts/ sour sticks

Oodles were gluten-free the last time I checked.
Joray fruit leather contains wheat!

Gluten is also found in caramel coloring / must so Balsamic vinegar, cocoa pebbles/puffs unless labeled GF, some chips.
Chewing gum can be a gluten source
Hydrolyzed yeast extract - saw that on a chips bag. Rice pilaf mix.

Come back here and let us know about Oodles. My gluten free “child” has outgrown them 😊

Just checked and according to the ingredients, it’s fine but underneath it says: may contain traces of wheat
I guess Il ask dd doctor if she can have that

If she’s celiac I wouldn’t let her eat it. If gluten intolerant she may be allowed.

Phew just checked my Cocoa Pebbles says GF.
But I didn't know that about balsamic vinegar... and chewing gum??

DD has celiac. She does fine with traces or “may contain”.

Balsamic vinegar is gluten free. The only common vinegar that isn't is malt vinegar.

@trixx I’m curious to know which gum you are referring to. I just checked the box of must gum that I have and there are no gluten ingredients in it

Distilling is a process that removes the gluten. So usually vinegar is gluten free, even if made from grain.

Read that info once on a list like this and since then I'm careful to read labels. Yes the rice pilaf mix isn't GF. One brand of Balsamic vinegar has the cleanest ingredients anyways. I don't chew gum but it's another label to check. If it's celiac you have to be more careful, I'm just dietary so I can afford to get "glutened"

I looked at the link and a lot of it seems contrary to what I learned, doing extensive research when my son was first diagnosed. We are super careful here, even with "cross-contamination" of the least amount.
