How much did you spend on wedding invites? How much did each wedding invitation cost?

It would depend on how many you are ordering
But anywhere from 1.50 -2.50 for a basic invitation

You can check out bp graphics prices in Lakewood. They are pretty reasonable.

I'm not sure how much we paid for wedding invitations, but we saved some money by only sending dinner invitations; my husband feels that chuppah cards are an unnecessary expense.
For the chuppa we put adverts in the local advertiser and it was also on a local simcha sheet.

I don't know about 'supposed'. There is a very wide range available. You choose what seems reasonable to you.

We also used paperless post. The paid version is $. 25 per invitation.
It allows for rsvps and reminder emails. Also allows you to put the event on your calendar and easily get directions.

I wonder if this is cultural. I’ve never seen chuppah cards

I'm not sure if it's cultural, but in Stamford Hill where I used to live it was quite common practice.
There were times we got chuppah cards but we had no idea who the people were!

I know in London (my husband is from
There too) there’s often several
Hours between chuppah and reception. Is that why there are separate cards?

From my experience the reception has always been either immediately before or immediately after the chuppah; but dinner could be at least a couple of hours later.
The separate cards are sent to people you're not inviting to the dinner, but would like to see at the chuppah and reception.

By reception I meant dinner! You meant shmorg during the kabolas panim, right!

Ok I Know the concept but in NY more often an rsvp card is just not placed in the envelope

Ok I HAVE seen those, but we didn’t use them

What you call shmorg is generally called reception in the UK.

I really don’t know the answer but when I got close to 20 years ago I think I remember that we paid $1,000 for probably around 250-300 invitations. We had a small wedding at a hall in Brooklyn. It was for invitations, dinner cards, return envelopes with 2 different addresses...
We probably overpaid but we were getting married very fast and didn’t have time to price.

My father designed and printed them on the computer, and then we had a whole family assembley line of people folding and adding inserts and gluing on roses and tying bows. My mother tested everyone on their bow tying skills, and concluded that she was the only one who could make it suitably ornamental. The rest of us got assigned to slave labour. The only cost was the paper and and envelopes and the ribbons. I don't know what the final cost was.

There were a fair amount of disagreements, but in the end some great memories. We probably saved some money, and got exactly what we wanted.
