He’s barely eating and a little crankier than usual. Also keeps trying to chew his hands and mine when he can grab it.
I feel like 4 months old is too young for this...

It is young, but still possible. My baby seemed to start teething at 4 months... Didn't actually have any teeth for a long time after though

It's possible. Of course, everything can look like teething. People suggested to me starting at 3 months that my first baby was teething, but she didn't cut her first tooth until she was about one year old.

So this starvation diet can last for months? I’m going nuts. He barely ate the last few days.

It comes and goes. It'll probably stop bothering him in a few days, then he'll start eating normally again, and in a few weeks you'll see that it comes back

Not at all. Right on time. Both my babies had 4 teeth by 6 months. Now at 7 months my baby has 7 teeth. My first had 12 by a year and this baby is on track to match that

Ask your pediatrician if there’s anything you can give him for the pain.

My son got his first tooth at 3 months. Yes, it is possible.
You'll find out soon enough.

I know I wrote one of my kids got their 1st 2 teeth at 5 months old, that does not mean yours will.
It could surely be teething but might only pop his 1st set much later on.
Asking your pediatrician how you can ease his pain is good.
Good luck

With my first I had that and I told my pediatrician and she said "oh, he'll be teething for months", 2 weeks later he had 2 teeth! Definitely possible.
