Lol nah I’m in my 30s. In some ways hs seems so far away and it some ways it feels like it couldn’t have been as long ago as it is... I’m curious if the culture and dynamics are still the same these days as it was back when I was in school.

My memories are of it being pretty intense. Grades felt very important. Was like a pressure to fit the drav Meir girl box. I do have some fond memories too. Lot of singing. Some great teachers.

I'm class of 15! Have amazing memories from there! But looking back, I def see alot of unhealthiness and intensity! I didnt realize it then cuz I was swept up in it lol!

Not sure I belong on this thread bec I'm not a BYDM alumnae, but I find it funny that you guys are only now realizing how intense it was. It's literally the thing that every person in Brooklyn knows about that school. I remember my HS days, the bydm girls had such a pressure for getting good grades. It was like a busha if you didn't get the top 2 marks in the class. It seemed so over the top.
(But at the same time, they did love the school!)
When I was looking into HS for my DD recently, when asking about bydm all you hear about is how intense, and pressurizing it is.

What will you tell someone there now to improve the experience and not get lost in the pressure?

Don’t add added pressure for grades. Keep dialogue open so she can discuss anything that sounds extreme with you. As always having healthy relationships with parents and family is the most important thing for a hs girl to feel good about herself. Hopefully she will be one of the girls that knows how to ignore the extreme stuff and take in the good the school has. Disclaimer I’m one of the 05 graduates! We are talking many years..

Hi! I'm also an '05 grad. I knew bydm was very into grades before starting there but never got pressured by it. I studied and did my best on tests. I was studious but not overboard. If anything I think the hype is to prove you can get good grades before you apply so that you can get accepted. The key in school is to always try your best and take it from there. That was my attitude in seminary too and it served me well. I would love for my oldest daughter to go there too, we will have to wait and see if she gets accepted. You have to know each child. My younger daughter has a different personality and fir her bydm might not be a good choice. It all depends on the kid.
