How do you make franks in blanks?

Do you smear something on the pastry dough or can I just roll the franks in it & brush with egg?

I usually spread some mustard on the puff pastry before rolling.

I usually put a thin layer of mashed potatoes. Or you can spread a little of mixture of duck sauce, mustard, and honey.

I, have to be anon bc this is my trade secret.
I use Malawach dough. Get 4 rectangles out of a circle (cutting off two ends of the circle and combining those into 1 strip)
Insert hot dog, close, make Hasselbeck slices, brush w egg and sesame
