Congressman Meeks, who represents frum areas including Inwood, Far Rockaway, & Bayswater, will be requesting that the US delay a $735 million sale of precision-guided missiles to Israel in light of the war with Gaza.

Here is a map of Rep. Meeks's district.

Moderators, if there is some reason why you feel that this belongs under "Politics" instead of just "News," I kindly request to move the thread instead of just locking it down. Thanks!

I've been saying for a while now that Israel needs to find a way to stop relying so much on foreign aid for financing the military.

Every shekel we take, gives the other country a say in how we manage ourselves. Early in the establishing of the state the money was crucial, and I'm grateful for it. Now, it seems to be holding us back.

IMHO, it's time for Israel to become more self sufficient, so that we don't have to worry so much about what other governments think about us, and so that they can't leverage against us by threatening to withhold financial assistance.

With so many Israelis in need of decent paying jobs, it may be time to look into creating private contractors on our own soil to fill our military needs. Keep everything "in house", as it were.

If private military suppliers want to sell to Israel, and they are not governed by the influence of their countries, of course importing would still be a good option, but the goal should be to become as independent as possible.

Does anyone know when the deal is supposed to go through?

I didn't like Biden at all during his election campaign, but he's done a few things that have surprised me in a good way, and if he goes through I can add that to the list.

Can you please clarify? I'm not totally understanding. Meeks wants to withhold funding from Israel or withhold funding from Israel's enemy? If the former, why is that a good thing?
(Meeks is my town's congressman, fwiw)

Thanks!

It's not good. It's awful. Write in to his office to protest.

You are 1000% correct, but Israel loves socialism too much..
Begun was saying this in the 80s 90s and no one wanted to hear it

You votes will be heard in the next election. Make sure your congressman knows that.
Share this information to all your contacts, and ask them to pass it on. You can make a difference!

To clarify: Meeks is an idiot. If Biden goes through with the arms deal despite pressure from anti-Israel Democrats, then that goes on my "Biden's good deeds" list.

It's a short list. Some things on the list are bad things that he hasn't (but could have) done and not actually good things that he did. I'm not saying I like him, just that he's done several things that surprised me in a good way after I expected only bad from him.
