I teach during the school year, and my plans for the Summer fell through. I want to do babysitting in Lakewood in my basement, I have a lot of space. Is it too late to advertise now? Also, where is the best place to advertise?

Babysitters are very in demand. Not too late.
Advertise in BP and word of mouth.

I've heard that babysitters are hard to find now. It shouldn't be too late.

I'm out of the loop so I don't know what the going rate is....

What jobs do people have + commute that work with those hours?

The men drop off and pick up before and after yeshiva and the wives work. Some ladies work 9:30-2:30 and do drop offs. Those are standard Lakewood hours.

How do people have 1 part-time working spouse + a learning husband? Only with support? How many kids do people on average learn until? Not to derail but I am so curious about how this all works (RWMO)

The people I know who do this the mother works 7,8,9-4/4:30. (depending on the job. Various education and therapies in public schools go 7:30-3). Father davens before Mother leaves the house, or they hire a teenager to sit from 6:30-7:30 while Father davens. Father puts the kids on the bus, packs bags, brings to babysitter by 9:15/9:30 and then goes to yeshiva by 9:30. Learns until 2, then does playgroup/babysitting pickup at 2:15.
Cares for kids and does bus "waiting". Mother comes home at 4/4:30 and Father goes to yeshiva from 4-7:30. Then night seder 9-11.

That's the logistics.
As to how long? Each family works differently.

I think I am interested in doing 18-24 Months, not sure yet. I would probably do it from 9-3 ( I'd be open to longer hours if someone needed). What is the average amount of children someone watches in a babysitting group? I don't think I'd want to have more than 5.

You would need to offer longer hours than 9:30 to 2:00 if you want to fill up for the summer at this point. Enough teachers, tutors, and therapists don’t work in the summer so demand for those short hours goes down.

I don’t have first hand experience, but my daughter lives in Lakewood and based on her experiences finding a babysitter, I’d say they’re very in demand and you won’t have a hard time filling up.
