Thank you all so much for the info. I'm in a real time crunch cuz he's leaving to overnight camp and the school is breathing real heavy down my back. They want real answers before they accept him back for next year.
For now I think I'll contact the BOE and see what they say. At the same time I'll call NYU and see what they say.
Really appreciate everyone's input.

my son has a lot of similar issues.
we did a neuorpsych eval through the BOE. it was worth less than nothing.
I spoke to my pediatrician (that's always the first step when looking for a new specialist) and she told me to go see a neurologist first. they will guide us from there.
Good luck

Helene Potash is the chairperson of CSE 6 (which includes Districts 17, 18, and 22). Which school is your son in, and what do you want her to help you with?

I don't really feel comfortable saying what school my son goes to. But if Helene was involved in my initial IEP/approval, I'm guessing she should be able to help me.
I need a nueropshych evaluation/behavioral analysis. Basically, we need a plan to help keep him under control.

I've actually been thinking of that for quite a while. I had an appointment a little while ago w someone who I thought was a neuropsychologist. Turns out he was a neurologist. He wanted to send us for MRI, eeg, Tova test and more. I really don't think all that is necessary.

Good luck getting anything from CSE 6 right now. After many months of silence from them, I had to go over her head to the Administrator of Special Ed for the entire DOE, who in one day arranged an IEP meeting for my son who was aging out that day and BH got his services to continue through the summer. It was either that or a huge news expose. But my kid got what he needed which was the most important thing.
If you're having no luck getting any consistent response from CSE, feel free to PM me to whom to go to over Ms. Potash's head. As a DOE employee myself, I hate going over the heads of others, but it's clear that there are swathes of people in the system right now just not doing their jobs. And if you serve in public education and are acting contrary to the best needs of children, you either should quit the job, rethink your priorities, and/or be disciplined at work. Sorry y'all.

We've also been dealing with Helene potash from boe and got absolutely nowhere. Like others mentioned, there's almost no point in counting on them. Also personally didn't think it's fair to put my kid thru numerous evaluation processes so we ended up paying a hefty price for Dr. Miriam Goldstein and bh it has really shed light on our case. It really gave us the clarity and direction that we needed. Lots of luck.

Would you mind elaborating a bit? Did she refer you somewhere? Or did she help you work thru the issues and give you coping tools?

She gave a clear break down of what my child's issues are. Finally brought us clarity. Then she gave us guidance on what we can to help for future. Which kind of therapies/treatments/systems would work.

This is exactly what I'm looking for! How do I get this without jumping thru hoops or paying a huge amount out of pocket?
Clearly my son is not speaking the language of the land. I need to know what language he does speak so l can learn it too.

I don't have those answers. We paid the money and we are trusting that it's what we had to do and that Hashem will provide. Good luck.

The DOE's evaluations were worthless for my child except for getting continued therapy. But they didn't have a clear path on what to do therapeutically either.

Can I hear a ballpark figure for someone like dr. Goldstein?

There’s dr mandelman in Brooklyn but you won’t get an appointment before October. Nor for any neurologist or psychologist or neuropsych. It’s a long process to get an appointment with any of these Unless you go to a clinic psychologist, who won’t really help in this case.
You can try someone like Ruchy Spitzer in Williamsburg who’s not a doctor (or therapist I think) but she gives very clear guidance on what’s happening with the child and what therapies and other stuff you need to do. I think she gives a written report but I’m not sure.
