Looks like we're leaning toward putting in a vinyl wood-look floor in our living/dining room. The only issue is that it leads directly to the area of the house that has regular wood floors. Does anyone have this in their house, and does it look weird? I'm imagining the difference in color and texture might make it look cheap. The difference would probably be visible from the front door area, as well as between the kitchen and dining room.

I don't know your layout but my kitchen is where we put in the vinyl and it's bordered by my dining room and hallway with hardwood. I think it looks fine, there's a transition piece put in to kind of "border" it.

I would not do that. Just run the hardwood into your living/dining room and stain to match. The vinyl will look fake and cheap.

I have the same. Vinyl in kitchen and playroom and real wood in dining room. I have a room divider on the floor and it looks totally fine

I would probably do a completely different color so that it doesn't clash or interfere.

When I was renovating my house the decorator told me you never do fake and real next to each other (wood, marble are both examples)
