... that were staples growing up?

I don't buy puff pastry, whipped topping, or MSG laden snacks.

That's not to say I stay away from all unhealthy items (cookies are just not the same without margarine) but those are some things I consciously avoid in my cooking.

I no longer eat any meat (including chicken). Nothing creamed. No mashed potatoes, or any potatoes tbh.

I am pre-diabetic so I am really limited. It helps though with inflammation and weight.

I don’t eat any meat, chicken or fish. I also try to stay away from foods with too many or artificial ingredients. For example, I’ll happily eat butter or olive oil, but I avoid margarine and cooking spray.

Jello, pudding mixes, canned soups, most canned vegetables, soda, instant mashed potatoes, Fizzies(TM)

Fake whipped topping aka "pareve whip" didn't exist, neither did Coffee Rich, but I won't touch those with a ten-foot pole.

The fake chocolate chips
Soda (except sprite once in a blue moon)
Colored ices - my kids are happy with the white ones so far

I avoid the parev puff pastry because it often has weird shortening in it. I’m fine with the kind that just has ingredients of flour, butter and salt.

Also, I don’t actually think any of this stuff is terrible on occasion. I don’t use it in my home because I prefer more basic ingredients, but I certainly don’t interrogate a friend as to what fat she put in the cookies she made.

Pretty much anything bought that's made with more than a very few ingredients or ingredients that I can't pronounce.
I avoid
Margarine
Gluten
Soy
Anything with msg
Soda
Food coloring
Artificial sweetener
Corn
Pretty much all sauces

I bake sourdough bread and gluten free cakes/cookies. I do buy snacks for my kids to take to school cuz I don't want them to feel deprived.

Why not? I often bake my regular challah recipe with white spelt and it tastes the same you literally can't tell(other than the price tag)

I grew up with basic, basic kosher foods (OOT keeping cy). Iceberg lettuce. American cheese. Milk. Chicken legs. Ground meat. Apples. Oranges. Tomatoes. Cucumbers. Carrots. Some rich's whip and puff pastry-but it wasn't readily available.

I still live OOT and enjoy a wider variety of food across the board, that simply were not available when I was a kid- avocados, broccoli, cauliflower, romaine lettuce, snap peas, different cheeses, yogurts, heavy cream, various cuts of meat, chicken cutlets, different pre-made doughs including puff pastry.

There is plenty of really "junk-type" of food out there nowadays. I don't believe in the "this is poison" mentality and will use these things on occasion got YT or some other special time. Most of time, I honestly avoid the stuff because it is quite expensive. A container of consume is about $6!

Waiting for someone to answer.

I'm wondering if everyone is still basing it on a few years ago when they had MSG, nowadays most are made out of only natural ingredients so I don't see it different than using other spices and flavorings?
