He’s amazing and I transferred to him from chop but he doesn’t take Jersey care. I pay out of pocket as do many others, he’s worth it.

I’ve been to him but first of all, he doesn’t take uhc and second of all the prescription he gave my daughter didn’t work well for her. The eye doctor in chop gave something very slightly different which ended up being perfect. So I’m not running back when insurance doesn’t cover the visit anyway. It’s also for more than one child so that would be costly.

Try dr Engel in east brunswick. Don’t know if they take Jersey care but he’s a great doc

When my dd had an issue dr shanik insisted he was the only dr to see.
No clue what insurance he takes.
(BH now we go local to dr Turtel practice and see dr Pardone).

Who does your pediatrician recommend? I’d start with that.

He no longer takes UHC.

Dr Haim Cohen was his student and works out of Eyes on 9 in lakewood.

He is not afraid to send you for a second opinion if he is not sure about something. ds has a very complex rx. He keeps monitoring him closely

There is no one decent on uhc. I’ve been working on this for over a year. Basically in the end I switched to ameri group temporarily so I could see dr. Engel in New Brunswick and that worked. I switched back to uhc when I didn’t need him anymore. It was a simple process to switch back and forth. (I saw dr Engel with more than 1 of my kids in the pdf and I’ve been very happy with him)

Really, you can do that? What’s involved in switching hmo? I thought you need to switch the entire family over?

We have uhc and went from engel to chop and now we’re at dr campollataro because he’s the only one who’s any good and is on the plan. It’s ridiculous because the wait is awful and the shlep is really bad too.

Please tell me more about switching, dd is a complex case and needs to be seen every few months.

How does he monitor closely? I thought dr Cohen only sees kids once a year

So for me my daughter had an issue that only needed to be monitored every 6 months to a year. We did have to switch the whole family but only did it once. My pediatrician and other main drs all took ameri group so as much as it was a pain to switch, it was worth it for us. Not sure how this would work if you need to see him consistently.

It wouldn’t be an option for me to switch hmo’s because some of my kids have their braces covered under United healthcare. Another hmo wouldn’t cover especially mid treatment so I have to stick with United healthcare.

Jersey care only covers a checkup once a year. If there’s a medical reason that a patient needs to be seen more than that of course it’s covered!

I once took dd to him because she was having headaches and they just bill it out as a medical exam instead of a checkup.
If he feels that he needs to keep a close eye on your child’s vision he will say so and you don’t need to worry that it wouldn’t be covered by insurance.
