Please help me!
DD9 just discovered HP fanfic.
She has finished the series. I don't want to get into the pros and cons of internet safety or filters (suffice to say I will be installing something next week) BUT I need to steer her in a better direction.

I recall posts about HP fanfic in the past. Was it clean? Can someone please post a link? I have been unsuccessful in my search so far.
TIA

No no no.

I mean, I enjoyed it tremendously. Would recommend it in a heartbeat to an adult.

But it starts off with a character discussing the rape of another character.

And there are many other disturbingly adult scenes and discussions (not just with regard to relationships, illicit or otherwise)

Definitely not considered "clean" in my book.

Be careful linking to a story on fanfiction.net; you want to whitelist just that story. Fanfiction.net has a lot of things you don't want dd to read.

Oy. I don't have time to pre-read everything. I'll start with the first suggestion.
Thanks!

There's a very sweet story done by another author that connects with that one (focusing on a Jewish boy at Hogwarts). Bit of mentioning of other faiths if that bothers you, but nothing major (I think it mentioned someone else praying in private, as well as x mas shopping). It's called "Goldstein shana bet" by Kira Sharp. Sorry, the device I'm on isn't great about copying links, but it's on fanfic.net

What about the follow up books to the original series? I think there were 3 or 4 of them, all print versions of books mentioned in the original series - as in, the students would mention reading "The Beetle and the Bard" in the Harry Potter books, and then you could buy that book separately so you could read it too.

I know they made movies that were meant to be connected prequels, "Impossible Beasts and Where to Find Them" being one of them. No idea what the novelization is like but that might be another option to look into.

Be very careful with fan fiction. There is a lot of romance and some of it is very explicit. You can't depend on the ratings because there is still a lot of content you wouldn't want to expose a young child to even in the less mature areas.

Can you interest her in writing her own fanfiction?

Fanfiction is known to be very explicit - and often poorly written. You may find good clean ones here and there, but as a parent, at the very least, I would pre-read and perhaps print them for her instead of allowing her to browse or read them on those sites.

I remember years ago there was a group of Jewish women online who discussed sci-fi and fantasy movies and books. If someone knows the group I mean and how to reach out to them, they may have more suggestions.

I'm not sure - I've seen others mention it on posts on this site, but I was never on the group myself, so unfortunately I don't have more details than that. Sorry!

Maybe check out the official website: https://www.wizardingworld.com/

There's a lot to do there and that can keep her busy for a while.
