Get storage cubes from target or ikea… stack one ontop of each other to create cubbies

What about hanging cubbies. You hang it down from the rod.

Most places have relatively inexpensive shelves - take a look at The Container Store and you will see lots of possibilities.

Most of them can be hung DIY but a handyman would be relatively inexpensive. Having double rods in a closet also helps.

There are also hanging stuff which can hold items which are an alternative to shelves.

You can buy a narrow set of shelves that fits beneath the rod, and just slide the shelving unit in. That way you don't have to pay for custom or installation. And the hanging rod still works in the rest of the space.

Something like this all in one corner. It would need to be shorter than the rod so it doesn't hit it.

Or something like this and whatever is hung on the rod on top of this set of shelves, will be the shorter skirts and tops.

See how there is a set of shelves set on the floor covering half the bottom of the closet One?
The picture that says "One bar for hanging clothes and one high shelf. Plus a small bookcase I stuck in there to add a bit more storage."
https://www.lovelyetc.com/diy-.....izer/
There is room in half the closet for long hanging clothes. And room above the shelves on the other half of the closet for shorter hanging clothes. And shelves beneath.

To explain the long narrow shelves, scroll to the 3rd picture.
See where it shows the Sterilite type drawers that are stacked up high, from the floor most of the way up?

Imagine that is a narrow set of shelves or drawers that reach all the way up to the rod. The rest of the closet can still have clothes hanging on the rod.

Measure your space and write down the dimensions. Figure out how far apart you want the shelves to be and how many shelves you want. Then go to a home improvement center, lumber yard, or similar place that cuts wood to size. and have them cut wood to your specifications. Buy some metal brackets for the shelves--how many will depend on how long the shelves are and how heavy the expected load--and install the shelves. You can also use small bars of wood instead of metal brackets--one piece at each end of the shelf and, for greater security, another on the back wall of the closet. The shelf then rests on these bars.
