For this who fast badly, sports drinks the day before really gives you a legup. So for me instead of feeling bad by 10am I start to feel bad at 3....makes a difference!!

Serving
Salmon and small fish goujon
Quinoa
Sesame Linguine
Challah rolls and dips
Leafy salad with boiled eggs and advacado
Fruit.

FYI, coffee before a fast is not a good idea, unless it's decaf. Caffeine is a diuretic (makes you go to the bathroom) and will dehydrate you instead of keeping water in your system, which is key to surviving a fast.

Was about to post the same. I’m surprised, so many people are planning on having it before the fast.

I’m not sure what we are serving yet, but definitely lots of fruits and veggies and complex carbs, like farro, freekeh, barley. Nothing that makes you thirsty.

Lox is sure to cause excessive thirst. Bad idea.

I very much agree about the sport drinks. We each have a 32 oz bottle to complete over Shabbos. Some of us also drink sport drinks starting Friday.

I dislike sports drinks. For others like me, OJ with Seltzer is a tasty alternative. Look up ways to add electrolytes to your water.

When one of my kids a as little she uses to throw up whenever she was ill and she wouldn't drink electrolyte drinks. The pediatrician said that water with a little juice and a tiny pinch of salt does exactly the same thing.

Homemade or boxed? Homemade might be ok. I wouldn't do boxed for sure.
