I took on a part time job - it was officially 10 hours a week, I’ve been giving it 15 hours as it needed more than 10 to get the job done. I do freelance work on the side, which BH built up a lot and now I can only give 10 hours to the other job. I really want to give it up completely. It’s high pressure, pays way less than my freelance work, and I can’t finish my job in 10 hours. Especially with kids being off end of August and yom tov coming, I cant see myself doing it all. So tomorrow I want to resign. How do I tell my boss? What do I say? There was no contracts, it’s a very very unofficial flying office

You thank your boss for the opportunity, explain that you are pursuing other professional options, give two weeks of notice and offer to train your replacement during that time.

I am going to do it by phone, as my boss is not in the office for the next week and doesn’t check his email often...is that okay? I’m so nervous!! He is a manipulative tough person

By phone is totally OK. Better than by email, in fact. Be strong and don't let him guilt you or twist your arm into staying. Two weeks' notice is the minimum that's considered polite.

There’s no contract and so you don’t need to give any notice at all. When I worked freelance in a similar position I had a contract and I did need to give notice. You don’t. So just keep in mind if he tries to twist you into staying on his terms that you can literally just walk away today. Obviously the right thing to do is to give 2 weeks notice. But if he tries to manipulate you, just wave goodbye.

I just told my boss that im leaving. It really didn't go over well. He attached me saying someone in my position (6 years) cant just leave like that... was a real ugly scene... but im gone. Friday will be my last day!
You got to do what works for you. you arent married to your job, and if you feel its time to leave, don't let anybody manipulate you...
I will miss my co-worker like crazy- but its time to pack my bags and go Confused

I work in a professional corporate company and someone just gave 2 weeks notice after over 10 years. Another person who was there over 10 years gave 3 weeks.

Update: BH went better than I expected. He has someone in the company that he is going to put in my place so that’s why he wasn’t as concerned, I don’t know that this lady is capable of doing my job. But I’m out of there by end of July! Yay I’m so excited to work just freelance. Will hopefully get my nights back and be a better mom!
