My ds keeps on crying it's like an automatic behaviour. What works for me is, I tell him he can cry in his room as long as he wants but if he wants to talk to me he has to stop crying. BH I am seeing a huge improvement.
Obviously I don't do this when he hurts himself.

Agree with this. Overly emotional isn’t always just a personality thing, often it’s some kind of imbalance. Overactive limbic system.
