I've seen the immediate family members wear very elegant shabbos wear, with heels.

Shabbos for the family, something comfortable. No heels unless you routinely walk a lot in them- you're walking through the streets and sometimes on grass for a while in crowds. There is room for more casual if any of your kids insist/want. Two of mine wanted to be extra comfortable and dressed the same way as their friends. I had them wear casual dresses or a solid top so they wouldn't feel weird in pictures later.

Mazel Tov! Not sure what circle you are in, but in the chassidish world the Immediate family is dressed like Balei Simcha - something that they would wear for daughter’s vort or son’s bar Mitzvah.
