I'm talking about 60s here. So either you're a bubby like me or you had family who would listen to those old oldies...

Well, in a crossword puzzle recently I came across a clue about a song called Domani. Well, I thought I remembered it.

I thought it went... domani... ho ho, hey cantare, ho ho ho ho
Well, it turns out Domani is a totally different song, & the one I remember is
Volare (means flying, whereas Domani means tomorrow!)

I'm curious how many of you remember old songs in foreign languages.
When I was a youngster all the way back then, I think it was our upstairs tenant who was into this kind of stuff. (My parents were more into Herb Alpert & Shlomo Carlebach.)

But, for example, there may have been popular songs in French, which I only learned later. So I can't seem to retrieve words, just impression.

One goes vaguely through my mind & the tune is very similar to part of "od yeshvu zkeinim uzkenos.." More like the part about "yeladim veyelodos yesachaku birchovoseha"

Michelle, ma belle
Sont les mots qui vont tres bien ensemble
Tres bien ensemble

Dominique, nique, nique
S'en allait tout simplement
Routier, pauvre et chantant

I don’t consider Hebrew to be a foreign language but Hava Nagila was mad popular.

I know Volare from "Name that Tune". And there are a couple of Spanish songs that I know from movie soundtracks. But I'm not old enough to actually remember the 60's; I learned them in the early to mid 80's when my parents listened to them as oldies and I watched shows with my mom or on Nick at Nite. There are definitely some Spanish songs I know from I Love Lucy, but I can't remember them now.

Here's another that I managed to find and was surprised I got enough words for it.
though I thought it was al di la del amour & it's really about mer, the sea

Beyond
I didn't believe it was possible,
that you could say say these words:
Beyond the most valuable thing, there you are.
Beyond the most ambitious dream, there you are.
Beyond the most beautiful things.
Beyond the stars, there you are.
Beyond, there you are for me, for me, only for me.
Beyond the deepest sea, there you are.
Beyond the world's limits, there you are.
Beyond the infinite sky vault, beyond the life.
There you are, beyond, there you are for me.

I was just remembering

This song is evidently from 1969.

At the ripe old age of 12, I remember thinking, trying to copy the Beatles, are we? (So I just looked this up now, have to be accurate in my critique, Michelle Ma Belle won a Grammy in 1966.

As a BT who became bas mitzvah in the 2000s, the songs they played then were so much worse and we knew what they meant too. I hated all that garbage.
