I use 'that' when I'm befuddled and not sure if I should use 'who' or 'whom'.
Is the word 'that' in this context not grammatically correct?

That= thing
Who= person
Who= subject of a sentence
Who called you?
Whom= object of a sentence
Whom did you call?

It depends how it’s used. I is a subjective pronoun and me is an objective pronoun. So “‘My friends and I are going to the movie theater” is correct because you are doing the thing. “She gave the present to my friends and I” is incorrect because you are on the receiving end of the action—in that sentence, “she” is the subject.

Nothing, when you are the subject of the sentence.
The easiest way to know whether you should use "I" or "me" is to cross out the words "my friends and." Then it's easy to figure out whether to use "I" or "me" because it's almost instinctive.
You say, "I went shopping," so you would say, "My friends and I went shopping."
You say, "She invited me to come to the party," so you would say, " She invited my friends and me to come to the party."
Whatever you do, don't use "myself" in the pretentious and incorrect way that I hear so often in the frum world. As in, "anyone who has questions should speak to Chani or myself." That one drives me crazy. It's "speak to Chani or me."

OP:
The previous respondent was absolutely clear and correct on how to tell which of "I" or "me" to use, and which of "who" or "whom". Would you ask someone "To who did you give it"? Both pairs of word choices boil down to subjective or objective case.
I actually have a friend here in Toronto who is a fellow member of a self-help group. At one of the meetings she actually said, "If you have [such and such], please give it to Linda or I."
DOUBLE OUCH!!
Not only incorrect, but pretentious. Would anyone say, "Give it to I"?!
