Whats done these days on basement walls (in a house), that has some kind of texture and color variation, so dirt is not as noticeable?

Sheetrock gets painted with many different kids of looks. This is a finished basement that has had sheetrock for 40 years, until now painted with a shmatta design.

In a basement or daylight basement apartment, I'd use full enamel paint. It seals the walls and prevents mold and moisture from seeping in. Enamel is also super easy to keep clean, and wipes down like a dream.

You can also get an extra mold retardant added into the paint when they mix it for you. It costs a bit more, but it's totally worth it.

The only problem with full enamel paint, is the fumes. It off-gasses a lot more slowly than matte or semi-gloss. Paint in warm weather, where you can keep the windows open for at least several days. Fans in the windows (blowing to the outside) will help immensely.

Patterns or textures arent "in" these days?

Patterns or textures hide a lot of fingerprints.

For a pattern, I’d use wallpaper. It’s more expensive than paint though

I finished my basement this past year. I did regular paint but I put up cute wall decal stickers on the playroom walls to give it some color and hopefully hide the dirt. There are tons of wall decal options on amazon.

Sounds cute, but this basement will be used by adults.
